Yes, this is still here, and it will be for a while to serve as a reminder that there’s a new place for Jill on Money content – YouTube! Seems like a no-brainer, but sometimes it takes a little outside help (h/t to JOM friend, Joe A!) to recognize the obvious. So don’t freak out. Going forward, we’re going to put all our radio and podcast content on YouTube! It’ll be easier for you to navigate and listen to past shows, because everything will be in one place. Just click any of the links below and you’ll be able to listen to this week’s show as well as anything else you see that might interest you, including all the Better Off podcast content if you haven’t been listening.

We had some great questions this week in hour one. It started with Jeff from Georgia who has done an amazing job of saving. Only in his early 50s, Jeff already has well over a million dollars and wanted to run his longterm game plan by us. Next up was Neil from Buffalo, another great saver. With a solid chunk of money in traditional retirement accounts, should he start using a Roth?
Hour two this week is all about why your power to make a difference is no longer bound by your status.
What exactly does that mean? To help explain, we’re joined by Nilofer Merchant, author of The Power of Onlyness: Make Your Wild Ideas Mighty Enough to Dent the World.
Do you wish you had the ability to make a difference, but you don’t have the credentials, or a seat at the table, can’t get past the gatekeepers, and aren’t high enough in any hierarchy to get your ideas heard?
In her latest book, Merchant reveals that, in fact, we have now reached an unprecedented moment of opportunity for your ideas to “make a dent” on the world. Now that the Internet has liberated ideas to spread through networks instead of hierarchies, power is no longer determined by your status, but by “onlyness,” that spot in the world only you stand in. If you build upon your signature ingredient of purpose and connect with those who are equally passionate, you have a lever by which to move the world.
Imagine how much better the world would be if every idea could have its shot, not just the ones that come from expected people and places.
It was definitely an interesting conversation that I think you’ll enjoy. From the slums of India and an arranged marriage to launching more than 100 products and netting $18B in sales, Merchant knows what it takes to make a dent in the world.
