CBS This Morning: Dumb Things Smart People Do with Their Money

If you agonize about money, you're not alone. Almost seven out of 10 Americans said finances are a "significant" source of stress in a recent survey. My very first book, “The Dumb Things Smart People Do with Their Money,” may provide some solutions. I joined CBS This Morning to discuss some of the ways people can right their financial wrongs.

CBS This Morning: Apple Anxiety

Apple stunned investors with a rare warning that revenue from its first quarter will not meet expectations. In part the company blames slower iPhone sales in China. CEO Tim Cook says a weaker Chinese economy and trade tensions with the U.S. are hurting Apple. What it means for the global economy. I discussed on CBS This Morning.

CBS This Morning: How Does the Rate Hike Impact You?

Short-term interest rates are higher after the Fed raised rates Wednesday by a quarter point, to a range of 2.25 percent to 2.5 percent. It's the fourth rise this year and the highest level since 2008. The Dow closed down almost 352 points after the announcement, the lowest close of the year. How does the rate rise impact Americans? I discussed on CBS This Morning.

CBS Evening News: Talking Seniors and Retirement

Retiring comfortably at 65 is now out of reach for millions with more and more Americans facing three main obstacles: They're living longer, median wages have stagnated over the past 20 years and a shift from pension plans to 401(k)s have all put a burden on employees. I discussed on the CBS Evening News with Jeff Glor.

CBS This Morning: Money Talks

Money can be an awkward topic of conversation. Many Americans say they would rather talk about almost anything else. A recent Capital Group survey asked more than 1,200 adults about what topics they considered "too taboo" to discuss with friends. Income, retirement savings, and the amount of debt were at the very top. I discussed on CBS This Morning.

CBS Evening News: Stocks Tumble

On Tuesday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by almost 800 points and shares of tech giants fared even worse. It was a reversal from the market's gains Monday, when Wall Street celebrated news of a truce in the U.S.-China trade fight. I discussed on the CBS Evening News with Jeff Glor.

CBS This Morning: Pay Gap Widens

The wage gap separating men and women is much wider than previously thought, according to a new report. The Institute for Women's Policy Research claims women earned $0.49 for each dollar that a man was paid over a 15-year span. That's a big difference from census data that show women make $0.80 for each dollar a man earns. I joined CBS This Morning to discuss the gender pay gap.

CBS This Morning: Black Friday

Black Friday sales are expected to hit a new record this year, with 71 percent of Americans planning to shop over the Thanksgiving weekend. Shoppers could spend more than $1 trillion this holiday season, for the first time ever. I joined CBS This Morning to discuss why consumer confidence is so high.

CBS This Morning: Care for the Elderly

Caregiving for elderly Americans can be a huge expense in time and money for their loved ones. A new report shows 20 percent of all caregivers say they spend more than 40 hours a week providing that help. For many, that's about the equivalent of a full time job and close to eight in 10 pay for the costs out of their own pockets. I joined CBS This Morning to discuss why the burden of taking care of elderly loved ones tends to fall disproportionately on one family member and particularly women.

CBS Sunday Morning: Are We due Another Banking Crisis?

In 2008, the banking system was near total collapse, the stock market was in free fall, and government officials (it seemed to many) were as clueless as the rest of us. I joined CBS Sunday Morning for a look back at the housing and banking crisis that almost dragged the world down into another Great Depression, talking with historian Adam Tooze and Wall Street Journal reporter Gretchen Morgenson about how many of the new rules put into place to protect the system from suffering another meltdown are being diluted.

CBS This Morning: FICO Credit Score

There will soon be a new way to calculate your credit score. The company behind FICO, the country's most widely used credit score, is launching the Ultra FICO Score early next year. It looks at cash accounts and banking behavior to determine if you are able to pay back a loan or credit card balance. I joined CBS This Morning to discuss what it could mean for your money.

CBS This Morning: Free Credit Freezes

Americans can help fight identity theft by freezing their credit – now free of charge – at the three main credit-monitoring services. This new policy is part of a law called The Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief and Consumer Protection Act. Over a year ago, a hack of one of those credit services, Equifax, affected nearly 150 million people and exposed personal information including names, social security numbers and birth dates. I joined CBS This Morning to discuss the importance of freezing your credit, how to do it, and what to do if you are experiencing fraud.
